Perfecte omstandigheden voor haar eerste proefrit. De kriebels waren dan ook te intens om er de eerste maal mee te kunnen rond toeren. De Ghia is nog niet helemaal tot in de puntjes afgewerkt aangezien er nog enkele items in bestelling zijn. O.a dashbord-cover,wissertjes en andere details. Maar dit kon ons niet weerhouden om alvast het gevoel te ondervinden wat het is om met een oldtimer rond te snorren . En dat gevoel was er zeker!!!!!!!!.......... De eerste km's denk je van ga ik niets horen, valt ze niet stil, doet de motor het wel goed,houdt ze wel goed baan, werken de remmen wel naar behoren.......... Na enkele km's. gingen deze twijfels en vragen spontaan over in een gelukzalig gevoel wetende dat je je eigelijk geen zorgen hoefde te maken. Dit alles hoort bij de laatste fase van de restauratie. Oog voor detail wordt vooral in de afwerking ook gerespecteerd!! Een geluk betreft de bekleding van de kap dat ik hier een originele reparatiehandleiding van 40 jaar geleden op de kop heb kunnen tikken. Na 2,5 jaar is onze karmann terug thuis om hem verder af te werken. Na de schildering is hij nog voorzien van een wax-coating . Dit is extra belangrijk om corrossie tegen te gaan in de toekomst. Beter te veel dan te weinig. En nu ...... enkele dagen laten uitlekken. Op plaatsen waar ik niet bij kon ,maar niet onbelangrijk waren heb ik gaatjes geboord en later afgedicht met rubberen stopjes zoals in de dorpels en luchtkanalen. Deze zullen uitgevoerd worden door Rudy van onze carrosserrieafdeling,hij is iemand met de nodige jaren bagage om deze uitdaging zeker te kunnen aangaan. Na echter enkele uren werk komt deze weer helemaal tot zijn recht. Intussen zijn we nu al begin februari ,en de schuurwerken lopen stillaan op z'n einde. Dit is nodig om bij de dagopeningen de juiste afmetingen te kunnen maken. Steunpunten voor autokrik onder aan bodemplaat vastgelast en de bodem zelf in een lichte steenslag gezet. Na het schilderen gaan we deze nog in de zwarte lak zetten. De volledige carrosserie is op dit moment volledig bewerkt. De voorlopige dunne laag grondverf dient terug verwijdert te worden voor de volgende fase, namelijk het voorzien van spuitplamuur om de laatste putjes en oneffenheden weg te werken. Eerst strak zetten met plamuur. Het lood plaatsen hiervoor werpt nu duidelijk zijn vruchten af ,aangezien we maar een minimale hoeveelheid polyester nodig hebben.Op reeds bewerkte oppervlakten heb ik al wat grondverf gezet daar het nog enkele weken kan duren vooraleer het helemaal klaar is . Het vertoonde geen scheuren, maar de zit was wel lichtjes doorgezeten. Dus........... Je raad het al, vernieuwen is de boodschap. Bekleding heb ik verwijdert en het frame laten zandstralen en nieuw gelakt. Kopsteunen waren origineel niet voorzien maar heb deze wel aangebracht. Het houten frame voor de achterbank viel bij het demonteren uit elkaar door houtrot. Dit heb ik dan zo goed mogelijk nagemaakt. Vervolgens het geheel naar een professionele stoffeerder gebracht die deze omtoverde tot juweeltjes.&lt;br /&gt;Veren opgespannen,nieuwe mousen,en afgewerkt met hoogwaardig kwaliteitsleder&lt;br /&gt;Mag gezien worden!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/soetens/sets/72157619009709124/"&gt;Foto's &lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Na een adempause van enkele weken na het vertinnen zijn we van start gegaan met het plamuren . Zoals je kan zien vb. het uittrekken van nog aanwezige blutsen in de rechtse flank.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Zo het is zover...... Al de lasnaden worden opgevuld met lood . Eerst de plaats die moet bewerkt worden mooi zuiver maken tot het blote metaal,dan vertinnen en hierna met lood opvullen. De moeilijkheid hierbij is het smeltpunt van dit materiaal juist op tijd in te schatten daar dit anders te lopend wordt of niet blijft kleven. Na enkele pogingen lukte me dit vrij aardig. Allereerst de buitenbeplating verder afgelast en vervolgens het aan werken van de achterste bumpersteunen, extra verstevigingen aan achterspoiler, binnenspatborden bewerken,dwarsverbinding over middentunnel ,verwarmingsbuizen inwerken etc.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/soetens/sets/72157612354726981/"&gt;Zie foto's &lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;De volgende stap is het vertinnen van de carrosserie!!! Zal wel wat tijd in beslag nemen! Deze stap wordt tijdens restauraties vaak overgeslagen. Al de lasnaden worden hier van lood voorzien dat tevens voor een extra stevigheid bied. Door het vertinnen van de carrosserie kan het latere plamuurwerk tot een minimum herleid worden. Inwerken van nieuwe banden bak,plaatsen van nieuwe zijschorten achteraan,binnenpaneel motorruimte,aanwerken beplating rond de motorkap achteraan....... Voor het plaatsen van de achterste zijschorten heb ik de bumper gemonteerd om rekening te kunnen houden met de tussendagmaten met deze!!(niet onbelangrijk)!En toen waren we weer enkele weken verder. Ik was er ten stelligste van overtuigd dat deze nog in goede staat zouden samen .... maar niet dus! Op zoek dan maar weer. De buiten beplating kan je apart in namaak nog krijgen . Aangezien nieuwe deuren zelf onwaarschijnlijk duur zijn en de rest van de deuren nog wel goed zijn ,heb ik het er op gewaagd om deze te bestellen. Na wat aanpassen hier en daar valt het allemaal redelijk in zijn plooi. Mag al wel eens meevallen hé!&lt;br /&gt;In het rechterspatbord vooraan is er onderaan een inpersing voorzien voor het karmann embleem. Maar dit kon niet anders. Een groot deel hiervan was wel goed beschermd maar o.a de bodemplaten waren wel lichtjes beschadigd. Om bij verdere laswerken de carrosserie beter te kunnen bereiken heb ik een nieuwe steun vervaardigd. Momenteel zijn we bezig met uitbreidingswerken in de garage,dit kwam mij goed uit om even het speeltje van de aannemers te gebruiken om de karmann te verplaatsen. Voor het gele beestje was dit kinderspel. Na het plaatsen op de steun zijn we begonnen met het verder monteren van de snuit.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/soetens/sets/72157606708631877/"&gt;Foto's&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;De bumpers heb ik voor de zomer bij een vroegere kennis(gebuur) af gegeven om te chromeren. Niet zo simpel omdat je moet rekening houden met verschillende factoren. O.a de aanpassing van de deuren ,waaronder de dagafmetingen voor en achter en aan de dorpel &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;. Een geluk dat ik deze voorbereiding nauwgezet volg aangezien het nieuwe linkse binnenspatbord(besteld in duitsland) 2 cm langer was dan het gebruikte rechtse. O.a de binnenspatborden,neus en voorste schermen. Dit alles heb ik allereerst i&lt;span style="font-size:0;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;n de epoxyprimer gezet vooraleer ze verder te bewerken.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;De voorste schermen zien er na het stralen echt niet uit!! Zijn al verschillende malen opgelast geweest met verschrikkelijk uitzicht tot gevolg. (k'denk dat ik maar eens op zoek moet gaan naar used front fenders).In tegenstelling tot de achterste binnenspatborden die reeds bewerkt waren in Januari. Allereerst beginnen we met het plaatsen van de dorpels op het chassis. Vervolgens de A-stijlen met het voorruitkader,en daarvoor bevestigen we de kofferbodem die we met z'n 2 bevestigingspunten monteren op de voortrein. Om de juiste hoek te bepalen van de A-stijlen dienen de deuren geplaatst te worden om een perfecte uitlijning te verkrijgen met de dorpels(zie foto's). De binnenspatborden monteren om een stevigere constructie te verkrijgen,daar de deuren anders gaan doorhangen!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Dit alles wordt voorlopig vastgeschroefd met parkervijzen!! Wanneer het achterstuk van de karmann volledig klaar is ga ik deze alsook aanpassen op het chassis, en hopen dat alles een beetje aansluit. Daarom wordt heel de body eerst vastgeschroefd zodanig dat er nog kan aangepast worden indien nodig.Nu is het alleen nog wachten op het achtersteven dat nog in bewerking is bij de zandstraler. &lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/soetens/sets/72157604298808530/"&gt;Foto's&lt;img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5183582790264409394" style="FLOAT: right; Doordat deze al zijn gestraald maakt het me gemakkelijker om de puntlassen te vinden en uit te boren.Nieuwe binnenschermen zijn zeldzaam,maar reparatiedelen kan je nog wel krijgen. Na veel zoeken heb ik toch nog 2 schermen gevonden in het zuiden van Duitsland,1 gebruikt en 1 nieuw. Ze kosten me wel 3x zoveel als alle reparatiedelen tesamen maar mij leek dit wel degelijker. Trouwens als je de foto's van de oude schermen bekijkt zul je het wel met me eens zijn dat dit de beste oplossing was&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;Tijdens de verzending van deze heb ik de A-stijl al hersteld .Nadeel is dat je hiervan niet alle stukken in de handel kunt verkrijgen,... Dan maar zelf in elkaar knutselen!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;Binnenschermen even gepast of ze goedkomen maar nog niet vastgelast. De donor die moet gaan dienen om de originele binnenspatborden te vervangen heb ik uitgesneden uit het achterstuk!&lt;br /&gt;Al het slechte plaatwerk is vervangen doornieuw materiaal. deze zijn er niet op,...maar ingelast. Deze had ik eerder deze week opgemerkt op het internet.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Daar aangekomen leek me dit de reis wel waard. Het is wel een achterstuk van een coupe,maar ik heb toch alleen de volledige binnenzijde nodig. Via mijn collega(Luc Magazijnier van Claessens) heb ik een adres gekregen van iemand die me de nodige tips heeft gegeven wat ik in zo'n geval het best kan doen,en in dit geval was het wijselijk het draaiend gedeelte van de motor door hem volledig te laten reviseren.Hij is hier dan ook in thuis en mij leek dit het verstandigste&lt;br /&gt;Lagerschelpen ,uitlaatkleppen,pakkingen, schelpen nokkenas ,klepgeleiders en zittingen werden vervangen ook de komstotters werden bewerkt,vliegwiel gevlakt,klepveren getest e.d&lt;br /&gt;Een belangrijke tip die ik eventuele toekomstige restaurateurs kan meegegeven is wat betreft de motor :Wanneer de motor een lange tijd niet heeft gedraait kan je het best bij een revisie de uitlaatkleppen vervangen daar deze kunnen afbreken met de nodige kosten,frustraties en herhalingswerken tot gevolg!!!!!!!&lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/soetens/sets/72157603464125213/"&gt; Hier bedoel ik mee dat de carrosserie van het chassis moet gedemonteerd worden. Bracht hem naar huis met een aanhangwagen van een vriend.Op het eerste zicht lijkt hij in redelijk goede staat,maar iets zegt me dat dit slechts een illusie is !&lt;br /&gt;Hij is al eens een paar keer gerestaureerd,maar hierbij zijn spijtig genoeg geen hoge normen gesteld.
